I wrote this song in early June '22 in response to the horrific mass school shooting in Uvalde, TX, which senselessly and tragically took the lives of 19 children and 2 teachers, as well as, injuring 38 others, mostly children.
There have already been over 400 mass shootings in the US this year alone to date (Aug ’23). An outrageous unthinkable number.
One mass shooting is too many. Gun violence and mass shootings have become an epidemic plaguing this country. Normalizing this is unacceptable. Gun regulation is the only answer, to prevent those from doing irreversible harm to others and themselves. Following hand in hand, we should be addressing the mental health issues typical in these cases. This country, in general, has reached a collective mental health crisis, it seems. We need to make more mental health resources available to those who need help and support. Perhaps, we can do more research on the politicians who are accepting money from the gun lobby. Let’s work together to vote them out of office.

To buy up guns and armor for his fun?
To kill women and children in the light of the sun?

Did he think he was just playing with toys?
Did he enjoy watching the flesh blown apart?
The terror and the horror and the fear he did start
What happened to form this monstrous little heart?

What makes a man want to make a plan?
To sell weapons of war to a child?
Does it make him feel free?
Does it make him feel wild?
What is it that brings his sickening smile?

What makes a people want to fight for a right?
That transgresses on all sacred laws?
Which lets loose death’s murderous jaws?
For which the loss of so many innocents is the cause?

What ugly lies told did make him so bold?
Which drove him to such a drastic fate?
That made him feel such a rage and unjustified hate?
Your thoughts and your prayers again have come too late

We must come together for each other
If we want a world where we can live in peace
A world in which the violence and hatred can cease
If we don’t fight for it now it will only increase
